Autumn's Breath

Autumn is that special time within each year
When the promise of rest summertime can hear
It is the time of pumpkins and of Halloween
Of candy and of witches waiting to be seen
Autumn smells of cinnamon baking in the air
Wafting bits of heaven calling friends to share
Swirling colored rainbows falling toward the ground
Warm feelings of laughter autumn's joyful sound
Crisp leaves crunch beneath the weight of running feet
Nature's own idea of a softly cushioned seat
For jumping into piles in the yard neatly raked
A claim to the mountain childhood royalty stakes
Hot cocoa in the morning to chase away the chill
Jack Frost playing upon the glass in the window sill
Autumn's breath soon turns to winter in a gentle shift
Thoughts change from Thanksgiving into Christmas gifts
Autumn's just a moment in time's ever changing moods
Filled with newborn dreams and some favorite foods
When the world takes a break from summer's dying heat
While the world prepares for winter's needed sleep.
